Paste a whole reading list
A book club list, a year's spine, whatever somebody sent you. Paste the lot in at once and Margin splits the titles from the authors.
The steps
- On the Books tab, press Paste a list, or a photo of one.
- Paste your list into the box, one book to a line.
- Under Who is reading them, check the children these books are for.
- Read the chips underneath to see what Margin made of each line.
- Press the button, which counts your lines for you and reads Add these 4 books when you pasted four.

What to know
Put the author after a dash or after the word by and Margin pulls it into its own column. A line with neither is read as a title on its own, which is the common case and perfectly fine.
A numbered list works. Margin takes a number and its dot or bracket off the front of a line, and it leaves a title that begins with a number alone, so 1984 and 100 Cupboards come through whole.
Anything already on your list is skipped rather than added twice, and Margin tells you how many it passed over.
You can photograph the list instead of typing it. Press Upload a photo instead. The photo is read on your own device and it is never sent anywhere.
