Add a subject
A subject is one child and one book. Tell Margin how many lessons it has and which days you teach it, and every lesson goes on the calendar in one press.
The steps
- Press the Setup tab and find the Subjects card.
- Press Add a subject to open the form.
- Pick the Child, then pick or type the Subject.
- Under Curriculum, type the book or the company in the box that says Search by book or company, then press your book in the list that drops down. Margin fills in the lessons and the minutes for you.
- Check Lessons and Min against your own book and change either one.
- Under Days taught, press the days you teach it.
- Press + Add subject.
Add a subject. No sound. The words are on the screen.
What to know
A subject belongs to one child. Two children doing the same book need one row each, and each row keeps its own lesson count, so a younger brother can be forty lessons behind his sister in the same book.
Starting at is the lesson the book begins on, and you leave it at 1 for a new book. It is not the lesson she is on today. There is a separate box for that, and the two do different things.
Margin lays the year out again the moment you press + Add subject, so the new lessons are on the calendar before you leave the page.
On a phone
The subject table is eight columns wide, so it gets a box of its own that scrolls sideways. A laptop is easier if you are adding several books at once.
